Why simultaneous interpretation?
With simultaneous interpreting, a speech, presentation or other form of communication is not interrupted.
What is simultaneous interpreting?
In simultaneous interpreting, the interpreter translates while the speaker is still speaking. This is in contrast to consecutive interpreting, where the interpreter only starts speaking after the speaker has finished speaking.
Simultaneous interpreting is one of the most intensive ways of interpreting. It is very demanding because the interpreter has to listen, translate and speak at the same time.
Therefore, a simultaneous interpreter cannot interpret for more than 20-30 minutes without a second interpreter.
Preparation for interviews
Because of the intensity and speed of interpreting, it is important that the interpreter is prepared in the subject matter. Providing technical terms or a script in advance helps in this regard.
